“A force of nature”, “A fugitive to the London music scene”, “an energetic and soulful performer”, all of these have been used to describe Rashid Alami and yet none come close to defining a musician approaching the form of his life.
One million Youtube hits, performing in front of an audience of 30,000 at the City of Manchester Stadium and a critically acclaimed movie soundtrack, for most these would be career defining highlights; something to tell the grand-kids about but then Rashid Alami isn’t most musicians, and he’s only just getting started…
Having honed his skills in the white-hot pressure cooker of the London music scene, Rashid has gone from drummer to guitarist to front-man, singer, solo-artist and songwriter. And he’s as comfortable switching genres as he is instruments, going from the technically demanding metal and rock scenes to the fast paced and unpredictable sounds of Grime and Dubstep.
As a young musician Rash was a regular on the London music scene, performing with his band NINA, an exciting rock outfit that pushed overdrive through dub beats and poppy choruses, at a number of iconic London venues including; Camden Underworld, Waterats, the London Astoria and the O2 Islington. All culminating in an appearance as Emergenza finalists and a JAR Music industry showcase.
While NINA were doing well, Rashid wanted more and pushed higher, working with chart topping Dubstep producers True Tiger on a number of projects including the Soundtrack for the British indie film, Shifty, leading to collaborations with fellow artists Plan B, Riz Ahmed and Sway. The video and track for Shifty received wide spread praise and airtime from Radio 1, Radio 1trxa, MTV and RWD magazine.
If you don’t know Rashid Alami by now, then maybe it’s time you got to know.
